Damian Winterburn – Partner

Mr Winterburn manages the Receiver & Lender Advisory and Development divisions of the company. Damian started his career in property 11 years ago working on the acquisition and disposal of development sites in SE QLD for a number of major developers and property families including such groups as Pradella, Mirvac and Forrester Kurts. During this period, he was actively involved in working for a group of receivers and financiers to assist in the evaluation, repositioning and disposal of projects that were incomplete or financially distressed.

In 2002 Damian commenced the development of a number of projects in South-East QLD and established a civil engineering and project management firm (Swaan Consulting) in Brisbane (now Wood & Grieve Engineers) . He was responsible for developing and managing over 30 projects ranging from Land Subdivisions, Townhomes, Apartments, Retirement Villages and Childcare Centres. Swaan Consulting grew to project manage over 100 projects in South East QLD for several of Queensland’s leading developers.

In 2005, Damian spent three years working with the Forrester Family in the United States in the acquisition and development of a number of projects in the residential and commercial sectors. While in the US, he also managed their consulting practice that worked closely with Macquarie Capital and assisted in the acquisition, due-diligence and management of over $150M* in commercial property transactions, as well as assisting Macquarie in reviewing over $1.4Billion in distressed real estate and mortgage opportunities. During this period, Damian was especially focused on the distressed real estate industry and includes speaking at national conferences and establishing a distressed asset platform for both real estate and commercial paper.

Damian holds a degree in Property Economics with a specialty in Development and Project Management from Queensland University of Technology. He has been an active member of a number of key boards and organizations including – UDIA, Urban Land Institute, Licensed Real Estate Agent in QLD, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, U.S. Green Building Council, National Association of Home Builders, National Investment Centre (Retirement), American Senior Housing Association, Property Council of Australia (PCA), Insolvency Practitioners Association of Australia (IPA) and Turnaround Management Association (TMA).

Greg Smith – Development and Construction Manager

Mr Smith is responsible for the Project and Development Management division of the company. Greg has over 25 years experience in both the construction and development industry working in senior roles for companies such as; Bovis Lend Lease, QM Properties, Reed Property, Civil & Civic and Santos. During his career he has been responsible for managing a variety of projects including major land subdivisions, large-scale apartment projects, hotels, retirement communities, commercial office buildings, as well as multiple refurbishments and interior fit-outs. Some of the more recent and well known projects include: Chancellor Park – 460 lot subdivision, Ramada Pelican Waters – 228 unit hotel, Grand Hotel Gladstone and Pacific Harbour – 1650 lot master planned community.

In addition Greg has had significant experience working directly with banks and financiers as their representative on high profile development projects. In these roles, Greg was responsible for protecting and monitoring the bank’s interests in the projects and has extensive experience in these following areas: verification of all project expenditure, acting as Contract Superintendent for civil and building works and coordination and management of project control meetings involving all stakeholders including the developer and the bank.
Some of the projects include:

- Project Manager on behalf of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in relation to Noosa Springs Development (Stage 1 – $74M)
- Project Manager on behalf of National Australia Bank (NAB) and QM Properties for Pacific Habour Estate (1,650 Lot Master Planned Community)

Greg has built a broad experience in the property sector having worked on multi-disciplined developments, including major civil engineering projects with substantial environmental constraints, major structural projects, industrial, commercial, retail and residential works. He holds an open, unrestricted QLD Builders License and is certfied in essential project feasibility and management software.

Brett Robinson – Director – Real Estate Advisory

Mr Robinson is the Director of CapLand’s Real Estate Advisory Division. Brett has in excess of 20 years experience across a broad range of property sectors including industrial, residential, commercial, tourism and specialty uses. Brett is a Certified Practicing Valuer with valuation experience spanning 20 years across a number of senior roles at firms including Herron Todd White and Rafter and O’Hagan (CBRE). Brett is able to combine his theoretical and technical knowledge with his hands on development and project management expertise to deliver comprehensive advice to clients.

In the latter half of his career, Brett held Senior Development Management positions within major development groups including Stockland Development Group, Reed Property Group and Devine Limited. Within these organisations he was involved in planning, approvals, construction and management of major land, apartment, mixed-use and retirement projects. Some of these projects included:

- ‘Sunshine Cove at Maroochydore’, an 8 Hectare major master planned community
- ‘Hideaway at Currumbin’, a 530 lot master planned community – end value of over $600M
- ‘River City’ Apartments in Brisbane, a 41 level mixed-use project – end value $72M
- ‘Casino Towers’ in Brisbane, a 39 level mixed-use project – end value $92M
- ‘River Place Apartments’ in Brisbane, a 34 level residential project – end value $125M
- 150 unit retirement village in Murrumba Downs – end value $50M

Brett holds a Bachelor of Business (Property Studies) at University of Queensland and is an Associate Certified Practicing Valuer of the Australian Property Institute (API). He is also a Registered Valuer with the Valuers Registration Board of Queensland.

James Walsh – Director – Development Site Sales

Mr Walsh is responsible for managing the Development Site Sales division of the company. He works closely with clients to evaluate each property and determine the best strategy to maximise the asset value within the market place.

James started his career in property in 2002 working for a local Brisbane land development company, Navco Property Group. Initially responsible for development feasibilities and market research on several hundred potential projects in South-East QLD and Northern NSW, James later progressed to manage the company’s acquisitions and disposals team. In this role, he was responsible for the acquisition and disposal of 22 development properties in SE QLD.

James later became the Business Development Manager for Swaan Consulting – a civil engineering and project management firm in Brisbane. In this role he worked as a liaison between current and potential clients, developers, investors and landowners in project review, project management as well as the acquisition and disposal of assets.

In late 2005, James worked in the United States for 2.5 years as a property consultant in Florida and Tennessee specialising in development site acquisition and disposal. James worked primarily for Aria Property International (the private company of the founders of FKP Ltd) and also worked for several other groups that included public & private builders, developers, investment companies and private land owners.

Throughout James’ career, he has successfully negotiated the acquisition and/or disposal of projects totaling more than 2,000 lots and 1,000 dwellings throughout QLD and the USA. He works hard to maximise the value for his clients in a professional and ethical manner.
